What this result means
A 12-minute run is a workout shape as well as a test. This calculator answers the arithmetic: given a pace, how far in 12:00; given a distance, what pace. It does not estimate oxygen uptake.
The Cooper test calculator applies Cooper 1968 to the distance. Keep them separate so a planning number is not mistaken for a VO2.
5:00/km for 12 minutes is 2.4 km (about 1.49 miles). 4:00/km is 3.0 km. 6:00/km is 2.0 km. Those identities are the same as the running pace calculator with time locked at 12:00.
If your loop is 2.8 km and you finish it in 12:00, required pace is about 4:17/km. Enter the distance and switch to “I know distance.”
Calculation method
Distance = 720 seconds ÷ seconds per kilometre. Pace = 720 ÷ distance in km. Displayed pace rounds to the nearest second; distance to two decimals in the result card.
Exact arithmetic. No VO2, no Riegel, no VDOT.
GPS distance in 12 minutes is jumpy. A measured track is better. For VO2 from that distance, open the Cooper tool.
Frequently asked questions
How far is 5:00/km in 12 minutes?
2.4 kilometres, or about 1.49 miles. This tool does not convert that into VO2.
Is this the Cooper test?
No. Cooper estimates VO2max from 12-minute distance. This page only converts pace and distance.
Can I use miles?
Yes. The header unit toggle converts the distance field and the result.
