What this experiment does

The main input is your marathon pace. Optionally enter a finish time — both stay in sync at even pace over 42.195 km.

When Kipchoge finishes, the tool estimates how far you have run at that pace and how many kilometres remain.

How it works

Your marathon time = pace × 42.195 km. Gap = your time − benchmark time. Distance when he finishes = marathon distance × (benchmark time ÷ your time). Progress bars visualise both positions.

Assumes even pacing at your average marathon pace. Hills, weather, and mid-race coffee stops are ignored.

Frequently asked questions

Do I enter pace or a finish time?

Pace is the main input. Add your marathon pace in min/km or min/mile. Finish time stays in sync at even pace over 42.195 km, so you can type either.

Which Kipchoge race is the benchmark?

The default is his Berlin 2022 marathon world record (2:01:09), stored in experiment configuration so it can be updated later.
