What this result means
Total steps multiplies distance by steps per unit length. It answers how many steps a whole session contains, not steps per kilometre alone.
Use pace and cadence when that is what the watch stored. Use stride when you already computed it. Per-km and per-mile pages stay for the unit rate.
10 km at 1.111 m stride → 9,000 steps. The same stride over 5 km → 4,500 steps. A half marathon (21.0975 km) at that stride is about 18,988 steps.
At 5:00/km and 180 spm over 10 km you get the same 9,000 because those inputs imply the 1.111 m stride.
